Special Olympics Vermont is a small, highly collaborative organization serving athletes with intellectual disabilities statewide. We seek to provide a learning environment that will prepare college student interns for the real world job market upon graduation. Our internships offer tangible, resume building skill development in a variety of fields. Internship opportunities are available to current college students each semester and in the summer. Marketing Intern

Position Description

Special Olympics Vermont seeks an intern to report to the Marketing and Partnerships Director. Primary responsibilities and projects will include:

  • Preparation of templates and marketing materials for Special Olympics Vermont local programs
  • Emphasis on brand compliance: research and create guidelines for local programs and Unified Champion Schools
  • Conduct interviews with community members and create blog content
  • Organization of photo library and online photo sharing platform
  • Create social media content around upcoming events and campaigns

Desired Skills and Attributes

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and energized by working in a fast paced environment. Successful applicants will be comfortable working independently and on group projects, demonstrate attention to detail, and align with our mission. Experience with WordPress, social media platforms, and Adobe InDesign are a plus.

Sports and Fitness Intern

Position Description

Special Olympics Vermont seeks an intern for 15-20 hours per week to report to the Sports Manager. The preference is for someone who can commit to both the fall and spring semesters. Primary responsibilities and projects will include:

  • Serve as primary liaison for recreational tournament hosts
  • Serve as primary liaison for the Unified Fitness Program: Communicate frequently with Special Olympics College students and athletes interested in the Unified Fitness program, coordinating schedules, match athletes with mentors, screen mentor applicants, etc., research and recommend equipment purchases
  • Provide ongoing support for State level competitions including in office prep an on-site event management
  • Lead Team Sports Assessment Evaluation working with volunteer coaches from across the state

Desired Skills and Attributes

  • Junior or senior undergraduate student, or graduate level students welcome
  • Strong written and oral communications skills. The intern will exercise these skills over the phone, in person and via email
  • Organized, with attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple responsibilities at one time
  • Passion for sports and fitness
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Event Management Intern

Position Description

Special Olympics Vermont seeks an intern for the fall and/or spring semester to report to the Events Manager. The intern will be immersed in all aspects of event preparation and execution. Primary responsibilities and projects will include:

  • Penguin Plunge event preparation: Outreach and recruitment to schools to build participation in the Cool Schools Penguin Plunge, assist school Plunge teams with fundraising, prepare communications
  • Law Enforcement Torch Run: Runner recruitment and day of operations for a 5K fundraising event, logistics and preparations for the Law Enforcement Torch Run event
  • Board of Directors Golf Tournament: Sponsor, auction and raffle activation
